The Promise of an Advocate!

Video at the bottom

Reading 1 Acts 8:5-8, 14-17

Philip went down to the city of Samaria

and proclaimed the Christ to them.

With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip

when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing.

For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice,

came out of many possessed people,

and many paralyzed or crippled people were cured.

There was great joy in that city.

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem

heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God,

they sent them Peter and John,

who went down and prayed for them,

that they might receive the Holy Spirit,

for it had not yet fallen upon any of them;

they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Then they laid hands on them

and they received the Holy Spirit.

Responsorial Psalm Ps 66:1-3, 4-5, 6-7, 16, 20

R. (1) Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Shout joyfully to God, all the earth,

sing praise to the glory of his name;

proclaim his glorious praise.

Say to God, "How tremendous are your deeds!"

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

"Let all on earth worship and sing praise to you,

sing praise to your name!"

Come and see the works of God,

his tremendous deeds among the children of Adam.

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

He has changed the sea into dry land;

through the river they passed on foot;

therefore let us rejoice in him.

He rules by his might forever.

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare

what he has done for me.

Blessed be God who refused me not

my prayer or his kindness!

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Reading 2 1 Pt 3:15-18

Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.

Always be ready to give an explanation

to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope,

but do it with gentleness and reverence,

keeping your conscience clear,

so that, when you are maligned,

those who defame your good conduct in Christ

may themselves be put to shame.

For it is better to suffer for doing good,

if that be the will of God, than for doing evil.

For Christ also suffered for sins once,

the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous,

that he might lead you to God.

Put to death in the flesh,

he was brought to life in the Spirit.

Alleluia Jn 14:23

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord,

and my Father will love him and we will come to him.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Jn 14:15-21

Jesus said to his disciples:

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

And I will ask the Father,

and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,

because it neither sees nor knows him.

But you know him, because he remains with you,

and will be in you.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

In a little while the world will no longer see me,

but you will see me, because I live and you will live.

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father

and you are in me and I in you.

Whoever has my commandments and observes them

is the one who loves me.

And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,

and I will love him and reveal myself to him."

Jesus saw the concerns, the fear, the uncertainty, of those whom he had walked with, and taught, and ate with, and whose feet He, himself washed.  Now He was leaving, His Ascension was soon coming, and so they had these feelings.  However, He reassured them, and us, that He would send an Advocate, that is the Holy Spirit, to be with them always.  The Spirit of truth would be with them, and us.  That's because He lived in the Father and the Father in Him, and so He lived in His disciples, as He does in us, His followers of today.  And the same was true of the Holy Spirit.

And our mission, like that of his Apostles and disciples was/is to preach and share His message of love, forgiveness, and to teach His commandments, for if we have them in our hearts and observe them faithfully, then that is how we know that Jesus loves us. And so we go about doing just that, knowing that the Holy Spirit of Truth is with us.  He wasn't just telling them;  He wasn't just telling his Bishops, His ministers and priests and deacons of today.  He was telling all of us, you and I;  that this would be our mission!

And so, here we are in 2017, trying very hard to preach and teach that gospel message and those commandments, in a world, in a country, that doesn't seem to want to hear it.  You know that as well as I do.  We only have to look at our own families.  Many don't want to hear that message and know about those commandments.  Why we ask?  Because they either do not want to open their hearts to the truths of the Holy Spirit, or they just don't seem to care about it.  It's not important to them, it's not on their agenda.  Is it  possible that perhaps that is the way it is with this whole generation of people (vast majority), this generation after us so called baby boomers?  They do not want to open their hearts to the truth of the Holy Spirit as it is given to us to speak?

Dear friends, this world has drastically changed over the years.  Satan has been very busy throughout this world, throughout this country.  He is the problem and the "Ways of the World" that is so pleasing to folks today belongs to him.  Do we know that that is?

Simply put, more and more people are loosing touch with Jesus, with God, with the Holy Spirit.  Money, entertainment, lack of two parent families, our government leaders (not all of course), this whole new upside down sexual entity, the fact that in so many scools and colleges, many teachers and professors frown at the morals and values taught by our Lord Jesus, spearheaded by Satan, has lured them into His evil claws.  Not all, but a huge number of them.

I have come to the conclusion that many just don't care one way or another;  that many just don't want to put God as first in their lives.  It's hard, it's a challenge, it's painful, it's demanding, it requires some action, a commitment, some sacrifice.  It means hearing the truth, a truth from me, from you, from anyone.  Then so be it.  We must move on.  If they are not willing or ready to hear the greatest news of all time, of their own life's salvation by the blood spilled on the Cross!;  if they do not want to hear that  from us, then give them to our Lord Jesus.  And believe that He will reach them in His own way, knowing with hope that no one is completely lost, because God is greater than Satan.  And so, we move on, but continue to pray for them, whether they are lost, blind, or indifferent;  knowing that all things are possible through prayerful intercession to our Lord!

~ Love One Another ~

Love one another with my forgiving love,
As I have loved you, your Father above.

Help one another in times of need,
As I have helped you, please do this for me.

Give so that others will know what its like,
To have someone who cares
about their sorrows and strife.

Touch someoneís life even if its in a small way,
Never forgetting how much I touch your life everyday.

Laugh and share joy with everyone that you see,
Showing them that true happiness comes from me.

Donít be afraid to speak my name, no matter where you are.
For I am with you, and I love you I will never be far.

Let go of the things in life that holds you down,
Iím your Father, and through me, is where your help is found.

All these things that I ask, you can do for free,
For the price was paid in full, on an old rugged tree.

Yes look around and reach out, to someone everyday,
Do this for me so everyone sees,
how much I love them in everyway.
