Good morning to all of you. This
morning, I am actually sitting
here with my pen in hand,
writing this the old fashioned
way. We were blasted in this
area in the very early hours of
Thursday morning. Our
electricity went off many times
during the night but we were
blessed to have it on all day on
Thursday. However, at around
10:20 p.m. on Thursday evening,
suddenly it was as if the switch
had been turned off. The power
was gone and it is now 7:40 a.m.
on Friday morning and we still
have no electricity.
I
woke up at about 6:15 a.m. and
the dawn was just beginning to
break. I lay there in the quiet
and realized that I could hear
sounds that I usually did not
hear this time of day. I heard
the birds singing their early
morning songs to God and
realized that we humans have
nothing on these little
songbirds. They serenade the
Lord all day long. I wonder what
they are saying?
When I got up, I began to light
candles.
God’s Word says in
Matthew 5:14 & 15: Ye are the
light of the world. A city that
is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle,
and put it under a bushel, but
on a candlestick; and it giveth
light unto all that are in the
house.
As I lit each candle, I watched
the small flicker of the flame
grow, and from that flame, I
could see what was around me.
We, as Christians, should be the
same as these candles. The
scripture tells us that WE ARE
the light of the world. We are
to be like the city on the hill
than cannot be hid. Lighting
those candles would have done us
no good if we had covered the
light with something. In fact,
when you cover the light, it
will go out. Instead, I put the
candle in a high place so that
it could bring us out of the
darkness. By doing that, it gave
light to all in the house.
The
darkness made me think of the
sin in our lives. It reminded me
of how blinded we are
without the “Light” to show us
the Way. When the Light shines
through the darkness, we can see
it from afar and it gives us
direction and hope.
Verse 16 of Matthew 5 says: Let
your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven.
Jesus says that we are the
light of the world. We
represent Him. We are His
ambassadors. We are not to
hide it away. We need to
nurture that flicker to
become a flame and let it
shine brightly everyday for
Jesus Christ. If we hide it
away, we will lose our
testimony and eventually,
the light in our life will
go out. Our witness will be
ruined and we would no
longer walk according to
God’s plan for your life.
What a blessing we would
lose.
As I opened the back door to
let the dogs out, the sun’s
glow hit my eyes and my
God’s love held me in its’
warmth.
Genesis 1-16-18 says: And
God made two great lights;
the greater light to rule
the day, and the lesser
light to rule the night: he
made the stars also. And God
set them in the firmament of
the heaven to give light
upon the earth, And to rule
over the day and over the
night, and to divide the
light from the darkness: and
God saw that it was good
.
As I took the sun’s light into
my house and, like the candle
(but on a grander scale), it
showed me that God’s light
shines for us everyday. We have
convinced ourselves that we are
dependant upon man made things
for our care and comfort. But,
in the beginning, God
had already taken care of us
when He provided the sun and all
its’ resources. God had you in
mind when He created the light
that ruled the day; He had you
in mind when He created the
lesser light to rule the night;
and He had ETERNITY in mind when
He sent His beloved Son into
this world to provide our Way.
John 8:12 says: Then spake Jesus
again: I am the light of the
world; he that followed me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall
have the light of life.
Without Jesus Christ in our
lives we are in the darkness
everyday. God sent His son to
bring us into the LIGHT. Without
Him, we have no hope at all.
John 3:19-21 says:
And this is the condemnation,
that light is come into the
world, and men loved darkness
rather than light, because their
deeds were evil. For every one
that doeth evil hateth the
light, neither cometh to the
light, lest his deeds should be
reproved. But he that doeth
truth cometh to the light, that
his deeds may be made manifest,
that they are wrought in God.
Remember God’s sacrifice of love
to mankind:
John 3:16-18 For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting
life. For God sent not his Son
into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world
through him might be saved. He
that believeth on him is not
condemned: but he that believeth
not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in
the name of the only begotten
Son of God.
Man is not
the source of “POWER” when
you belong to God. God is
all Power and He alone is
the Source from whom we
gather our strength, our
energies, and the Light of
His beloved Son. Even though
this day, on man’s level, is
dark, as a child of God, my
light and yours can shine
brighter than ever. Our
Source is the “Son”……the
only begotten Son of God,
The Savior of the world.
Sometimes it
is good for the electricity
to go out. In the darkness,
you can see the TRUE LIGHT,
THE SON OF GOD. IF YOU WILL
ONLY TRUST HIM AS
YOUR SAVIOR, YOU, TOO, CAN
SHINE LIKE A BEACON FOR HIM.
Don’t condemn yourself to
darkness. Come to the LIGHT.
Jesus Is the Light of the World.

I hope that you will take
time and watch this
beautiful video. The poem
was written by my friend,
Dawn Gwin and the video was
done by my friend, Steve
Politte. Not only is it
just beautiful and very
touching, but it fits this
devotional perfectly. Thank
you, Dawn and Steve, for
making this video available
for us to use here at Joy in
the Morning Ministries. The
name of the video and the
poem is "YOUR LIGHT".

My Creed:
Lord, Give me a humble
heart, a soft voice, a kind
word and the love of God
that touches hearts with
it's meek approach; To be a
"Proclaimer" of the Word of
God that points to
Salvation. That is what I
want to be before my God.
